What are the System Requirements for the Interactive CD-ROM?

Operating Systems:

  • Windows 98, Second Edition
  • Windows Millenium

  • Windows XP
  • Macintosh OS versions 8.6 - 9.x
  • Macintosh OS X 10.1 or higher

Hard Disk Space

  • Full Install: 500MB
  • Easy Install: 50MB

RAM

  • Minimum: 64MB free memory
  • Recommended: 128MB free memory

Video

  • Minimum: 800x600 resolution, 16 bit or higher
  • Recommended: 800x600 resolution, true color

 

How do I install and launch the Interactive CD-ROM?

Macintosh:

  1. Place the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. A CD-ROM icon will appear on your desktop. Double-click the CD-ROM icon. A window with the program's "Read Me" file and an installation icon will appear.
  3. Double-click the installation icon and follow the prompts that appear on-screen.
  4. When installing the program, you will have three options: Easy Install, Full Install, or Network Install.
    • Easy Install: This option installs the program to the hard drive and requires the disc in the CD-ROM drive for the program to run.
    • Full Install: This option installs the program and the media elements to the hard drive, allowing the program to run without the disc in the CD-ROM drive.
      Note: A Site Install consists of multiple "Full" installs on an unlimited number of computers at one school. Repeat steps 1-4 above for each computer.
    • Network Install: This option installs the program and the media elements to a networked server, allowing client machines to run the program off of that server. Once connected to the server, client machines install the program to their hard drive and access media elements stored on the server.

  5. After installation is complete, double-click the program startup icon that is now on your hard drive to launch the program.
  6. IMPORTANT: For the most up-to-date information concerning the program's installation, please see the "Read Me" document on the disc.

Windows:

How do I install the Before You Know It flashcards?

Installation instructions can be found in the "BYKI" folder on the CD-ROM.

 

How do I type the special characters like â, é, ü, ¿, etc that I don't see on my keyboard?

To type accents and special characters, click the Special Characters button that appears in all activities requiring typing. This will open a box containing all the accents and special characters you need. Place your cursor where you need the character to be placed in the text you're typing. Then, select a character from the Special Characters box. The selected character will be automatically placed in your text.
