What are the System Requirements for the Interactive CD-ROM?

Macintosh:

  • Processor running at 180MHz or faster
  • Monitor capable of at least 256 colors and 800x600 resolution
  • Mac OS 8.1 or higher (OS X 10.1 or higher requires Classic environment)
  • 32MB or more of installed RAM
  • 96MB of free space on hard drive for Easy Install
  • QuickTime (provided with program, also available here)
  • Internal or external speakers; headphones (optional)
  • Microphone (for recording)

Windows:

  • Processor running at 200MHz or faster
  • Monitor capable of at least 256 colors and 800x600 resolution
  • Windows 95, 98, NT4, 2000
  • 32MB or more of installed RAM
  • 96MB of free space on hard drive for Easy Install
  • QuickTime (provided with program, also available here)
  • Sound card and internal or external speakers; headphones (optional)
  • Microphone (for recording)

 

How do I install and launch the Interactive CD-ROM?

Macintosh:

  1. Place the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. A CD-ROM icon will appear on your desktop. Double-click the CD-ROM icon. A window with the program's "Read Me" file and an installation icon will appear.
  3. Double-click the installation icon and follow the prompts that appear on-screen.
  4. When installing the program, you will have three options: Easy Install, Full Install, or Network Install.
    • Easy Install: This option installs the program to the hard drive and requires the disc in the CD-ROM drive for the program to run.
    • Full Install: This option installs the program and the media elements to the hard drive, allowing the program to run without the disc in the CD-ROM drive.
    • Network Install: This option installs the program and the media elements to a networked server, allowing client machines to run the program off of that server. Once connected to the server, client machines install the program to their hard drive and access media elements stored on the server.

  5. After installation is complete, double-click the program startup icon that is now on your hard drive to launch the program.
  6. IMPORTANT: For the most up-to-date information concerning the program's installation, please see the "Read Me" document on the disc.

Windows:

  1. Place the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Locate the installer file on the CD-ROM, double-click it, and follow the on-screen prompts.

How do I type the special characters like â, é, ü, ¿, etc that I don't see on my keyboard?

Macintosh:

  • To make an acute-accented vowel, like é, type option-e followed by the vowel you would like accented.
  • To make a grave-accented vowel, like à, type option-` followed by the vowel you would like accented
  • To make a circumflex-accented vowel, like î, type option-i followed by the vowel you would like accented.
  • To make a tilde-accented letter, like ñ, type option-n follwed by the letter you would like accented.
  • To make a umlaut-accented letter, like ü, type option-u followed by the letter you would like accented.
  • To make a letter c with a cedilla (ç), type option-c.
  • To make an inverted question mark (¿), type option-shift-?
  • To make an inverted exclamation point (¡), type option-1.
  • To make ß, type option-s.

Windows:

  • Important: make sure that the U.S. International Keyboard has been loaded first. See your Windows setup instructions for more information.
