Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I'm using PowerPoint for Macintosh, and the hyperlinks in the presentation slides aren't working. Why?
The most recent version of PowerPoint for Mac, 11.2.4, is sometimes unable to use presentation hyperlinks correctly (example: clicking a chapter title on a Table of Contents slide to jump to the first slide of the chapter desired). If your installation of PowerPoint is affected by this issue, you will find that when mousing over a hyperlink in a PowerPoint presentation, the pointer will change into the pointing hand cursor as if the text is a hyperlink, but clicking the item will have no effect.
Microsoft Office for Mac versions 11.2.4, 11.2.5, and 11.2.6 all contain PowerPoint 11.2.4. Microsoft is currently working on an update to fix this problem. This issue does not affect most users of PowerPoint 11.2.4, but if your Holt PowerPoint-based product is affected, please use one of the following workarounds until Microsoft has published a PowerPoint update that fixes this problem:
1. Use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through the presentation.
- or -
2. In the Finder or from the CD-ROM icon on your desktop, navigate within the file structure of the CD to access the desired content (content is stored within a folder named "files" on the CD-ROM).
- or -
3. If you have access to the original installation discs for Office or PowerPoint, delete your current 11.2.4 version of PowerPoint and reinstall from the installation disc (do not allow Office or PowerPoint to automatically update itself after reinstalling).
We will update this information as soon as Microsoft has made a corrective update available for download. |
Can I customize the PowerPoint
presentations?
| Yes, but you must first copy the presentation
folder to your hard drive. Note: be sure to copy the folder
containing the presentation and its associated content; do not
copy just the presentation file alone. |
After copying a presentation folder
to my hard drive, PowerPoint can’t locate an asset associated
with the presentation. Why?
| When PowerPoint presentations link
to assets used within the presentation (audio or video files,
for example), the link length may exceed PowerPoint's limit (for
example, if you saved the presentation folder several folders "deep" on
your hard drive). If the link length is too long for
PowerPoint to process, the link to the asset will fail. Try
moving the presentation folder closer to the root level of your
hard drive (resulting in a "shallower" location of
the asset, which can significantly shorten the link length). |
Can I include audio and video content
in customized presentations? What kind?
| Yes, as long as the content is in a
format supported by PowerPoint. |
If One-Stop Planner does not include
a viewer for PowerPoint presentations, how can we view them?
Windows: PowerPoint presentations
can be viewed on any Windows system; the viewer is built in to
the operating system.
Macintosh: users must have the PowerPoint application in order
to view PowerPoint presentations. Alternately, Macintosh users
can view PowerPoint presentations with QuickTime software, IF
the PowerPoint presentation has been converted and made available
to them in QuickTime format. |
What is the format of the video files?
| Windows: Windows Media (.wmv); Macintosh:
QuickTime (.mov) |
